Preventing anonymous users from using chat

Many unrated players resort to verbal abuse in lichess chats. Whilst I don't personally mind (it's just a moral victory for me) others could potentially be put off by this, and because there is no real way to report anonymous users for this kind of behavior perhaps preventing them from typing in chat would solve this issue (they could still be allowed to use the pre-made messages at the bottom of the chat box), and I guess users could have a box to allow them to chat if they wanted to do a post game analysis. Idk just a suggestion :)
#1 good idea! i bet some ppl who have been 'verbally abused' and mind it would like this! :) i have once, in fact the day before yesterday... but i just ignored him/her... :D
Anonymous users do not have access to using public chats. If you leave the chat enabled in a game private chat, it's your fault.
#4 I know that, but this way the anonymous users could still say good luck etc.
Why do you care if they can say good luck etc.? If you don't want to be verbally abused by anonymous users, just disable the chat when they start typing something stupid. If you don't trust that they will say anything productive just disable the chat whenever you play someone anon. It's that simple. You can enable/disable the chat at any time before or even during a game, so why add restrictions? The impetus is on the user to decide if/how to use the game chat.
#6 I personally don't care if anonymous users resort to verbal abuse. If you read my comment my point was that other users on lichess could be put off by this as they might not realize this could be a problem due to not being able to report anonymous users, and that a potential solution to the problem would be to prevent them from typing in the chat unless the user gives them permission. I know that you can just disable the chat but I think it is an important part of chess to say good luck to your opponents and gg afterwards. Just because you don't care about something doesn't mean everybody else doesn't :)
My point is, you're asking for a feature to be developed that 1) goes against some of the founding principles of this site to do something that already exists, with the exception of being able to type gl or gg before/after a match if someone disables chat.

For the record, I'm not saying it's a bad idea to simply have anonymous users disabled from chat with the exception of gl and gg, etc. but at the same time I'm simply saying it would require a lot of re-coding of the chat system I think (I don't know for sure, I'm not a developer) to simply appease a very small minority of the community who would prefer to force anonymous users into disabled chat with exceptions rather than just taking it upon themselves to disable chat.

As for the importance of saying good luck and gg, I agree it's important for sportsmanship, but honestly, the vast majority of players don't even bother, let alone anonymous players who rarely do anything but troll if they do use chat. So basically my point wasn't "you're wrong!" or "well I don't do this or that so no one else does" my points was your idea supports a very small minority of users and the resources that may be required to implement such an idea are therefore necessary on far more important tasks, imho.
I know politeness is rare on the internet and doubly so for Anonymous users, but I've still had a handful of pleasant chats with Anon sandwiched in between episodes of verbal abuse. One even led to the Anonymous user finally making an account here. Whether it is worth putting up with the abuse for the rare chance at a nice conversation should be left up to the user as it already is: disable the chat or don't. This proposal would make the choice for us.

By the way, you can click the "Good game" button while the chat is disabled and they will still get the message even though you won't see it. You can just keep your chat disabled and pretend they also said "Good game" back.
Fenris1066: Fair point, sorry for misunderstanding what you meant, personally I don't think it would be too difficult to implement but I see what you mean and I guess things are okay the way they are. Thanks for your input :)

Arcticpenguin: Also a good point, I guess we can always just disable the chat if our opponents aren't being nice. Looking back on my suggestion I can see that it isn't really necessary.

Anyways thanks everyone for the feedback on the suggestion :)
