keep playing after result?

@Fenris1066, you're looking at the most difficult implementation, I would simply add a shortcut button to "Continue as Casual" that would simply be a shortcut to Continue from this position with this opponent as a Casual game with unlimited time controls (or maybe same time controls would be better)
@aurimus, if ive read correctly you are suggesting a pop up button to click to 'keep playing casually'? i was thinking why even this? just after a timed out result just let the pieces continue to be movable. no need for the question to be asked. pieces on a physical board do not lock in place... this way would be even simpler (although only fractionally) and i guess a touch of realism (?) which would be a good thing?
@kroqster, not a popup, a button besides Rematch there's a mockup in the Github, here:github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/1540#issuecomment-176175546

Your point is good, but I'm thinking about implementation a bit.. technically it might be easier to create a casual game from that position and you would get all the sweetness of history, analysis and so forth, while if you just keep the connection, but don't record anything in the database it looks like there might be some trouble with ending the game for a second time.. it might feel a bit buggy.

What I could think of is: one of the players continues to move a piece after timeout - it could make a popup that asks "Do you want to continue the game beyond time as Casual?" .. and if clicked would challenge the opponent to continue as casual.
I agree with suggestions. It would be a nice feature - offer your opponent to finish the game after timeout. Also note: it is not possible to "play from position"/"continue from here" if the game was variant.
