I enjoyed it very much. It's been awhile since I read Hornby, but didn't he essentially write that being a fan is a lesson in pain and disappointment, interrupted by momentary happiness only to be replaced by worry that the next season won't match whatever fleeting glory *may* have ever been seized?

I think that's appropriate for chess, too!

Overall I thought it was articulate, engaging, and topical. Keep it up!
