Destruction of free speech/civil rights is not about the left or right. Any partisan overtones are noise and you have to look at the big picture of what is really taking place. Create a boogeyman, wave it around, and use it as a pretense to take away freedoms. The entire fake news/communications controversy (notwithstanding whatever legitimate bad actors, foreign propaganda are out there) is driven with this goal. Manufacture moronic-sounding conspiracy scares (flat-earthing, Covid from 5G and so forth) and parade vulgar conspiracy sideshows (that anyone with a modicum of critical thought can see are furthering the interests of the same organizations they claim to expose) across streaming platforms to 'outrage', and you can rope in any genuine discussion of underhanded government activity whose existence is a self-evident fact. Fuel the fire with hate speech across social media and you can have comments sections culled (e.g. IMDB) or marginalized (e.g. YouTube) as a result. Start mandating built-in fact checks and down the road, any unappealing truths can be snuffed out of hand. These social media platforms with users in the hundreds of millions that have displaced and consumed other forms of communication are becoming bastions of censorship, their hands seemingly forced, The endgame being that people are turned into passive consumers, that the establishment has sole discretion to decide what can be discussed or not, that any critical, expression (not only on politics/social events) against the grain can be dismissed, demonetized or censored outright, and that the only ones left heard from on sensitive issues are mouthpieces. And it should be familiar how this all plays out, given it's a realized state in parts of the world.
No one is banning books. Plus, the left doesn't even have the authority to do so. Keep blaming it on "Big Left".
