My worst game ever.

1. e4 c5 2. f4 Nc6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e5 Nd5
5. Bc4 Nxf4 6. Bxf7+ Kxf7 7. Ng5+ Kg8 8. Qf3 Nxg2+
9. Qxg2 Qe8 10. O-O e6 11. Nf7 Nb4 12. Nh6#

I had black. :(
Well, virtually everybody has something like this happen. The issue was that you needed to parry the pesky knight with h6. As for missing the mate, well, this game wasn't invented by nice people. Most likely, you lost this game for psychological reasons. I think White's surprising 6.Bxf7+ may have made you uncomfortable. Anyway, don't worry about it. This happens all the time. But the next time you have a game where your opponent initiates a premature attack, look for ways to slowly and modestly pick it apart instead of turning to the crazy sacrificial ideas.

I really do dislike facing people that sack all their pieces and that is what this opponent does every time we play. With white I play d4 against him and he gets crushed. I take all his stuff then he resigns 99% of the time. When I have black he plays the kings gambit or something else not particularly in my style some goring gambit sort of thing. I did get to be an expert at the Anderssen Attack attack line and it is a draw in the endgame line. I memorized and played 35 moves of theory there and the endgame is a draw so he does not go for that anymore. So I switched to 1.. c5 and get crushed in 10 moves for the first time since I know Najdorf theory extremely deep as well but not enough to play it competitively with black. (this is what I know 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6
5. Nc3 a6 6. Be3 Ng4 7. Bc1 Nf6 8. f3 e5
9. Nb3 Be6 10. Be3 Be7 11. Qd2 O-O 12. O-O-O Nbd7
13. g4 b5 14. g5 b4 15. gxf6 bxc3 16. Qxc3 Nxf6
17. Na5 Rc8 18. Nc6 Qd7 19. Nxe7+ Qxe7 20. Qa5 Rc6
21. Rg1) I do not have the old stuff memorized where on 14. b4 white moves the knight...

In that case I would suggest you to study the games of Viktor Korchnoi. He really liked accepting sacrifices and try to refute the attacking attempts. He had a positive score against the great tactical genius Mikhail Tal.
Besides that, Korchnoi showed fighting chess, and he was great in endgames, especially rook endgames.

Good luck & enjoy !

Yeh. I always accept if I don't see anything right away. I am a pawn and material grabber.

I analysed with Stockfish and with careful defense, black neutralised the attack by around move 20, had a won game by about move 30, queened on move 55 and mated on move 63.
It often requires a lot on the mental stamina and determination but high rated players laugh at those dodgy mating gambits. The shock value on middle to lower board players can put them off but if you have the time, pause, take a little longer to find the defense and the attacking player's game will collapse and they will be soon be demoralised. That's what I tell myself, it works most of the time but sometimes it doesn't because I'm not that cognitively sharp.

You like pawn grabbing ? Then studying the games of Fischer and Seirawan might help you as well.

""Concentrate on material gains. Whatever your opponent gives you take, unless you see a good reason not to."" -- Bobby Fischer.

You did study that weird pawn grab Bxh2 game by Fischer,
right ?
Several GMs have spend hours analyzing that game.
